Reasons for Hair Loss
If you're like most people who experience significant hair loss you want to know the reasons for hair loss as well as proven treatments that will help you regain your majestic mane. While there is no one specific cause of hair loss, there are some genetic and hormonal factors that have been linked to this condition. Other known reasons for hair loss include excessive stress, illness, stress, and age.
Most Common Reasons for Hair Loss
Some of the most common reasons for hair loss in both men and women are linked to a condition known as female/male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia. Male pattern baldness is responsible for more than 95% of hair loss among men. The reasons for hair loss in this situation are largely attributed to genetics and hormones. If a man's maternal grandfather is/was bald, then his chances of going bald are increased. Additionally, an over-production of the hormone dihydrotestosterone can lead to male pattern baldness. On the other hand, female pattern baldness is often the result of genetic issues which typically arise after menopause.
Other Reasons for Hair Loss
While some of the common reasons for hair loss mentioned above have to do with genetics and hormonal changes, there are some other factors which can contribute to this condition. For instance, excessive stress has been found to be chief among secondary reasons for hair loss. In this case, two types of hair loss can arise: telogen effluvium and alopecia areata. With telogen effluvium, hair ceases to grow. It becomes dormant and eventually falls out a few months later but returns within 6 to 9 months. With alopecia areata, hair follicles are attacked by white blood cells which causes the hair to fall out in patches within a few weeks.
